Installing MT4

Installing and starting to use MT4 is a very simple process.  Download and save the MT4 platform by clicking here.

Double click the downloaded file and follow the instructions to install the program.

Once installed, when you first open the program, you will be asked to enter your login and password for the account you wish to use.  MT4 is a software trading platform that connects to an account you have with a forex broker.  To get your username and password you can open a free, no obligation Metatrader demo account here.

Enter your login details and select the demo server to practice or the live server if you have opened a live trading account and deposited funds to start trading.

Once logged in you will be presented with the main trading area which is organized into a number of different areas, with each area further subdivided using tabs to switch between them.

1. The Menu bar and toolbar at the top where all the functions of MT4 can be accessed.
2. The main chart window, where 4 forex charts will be already opened.  These charts can be maximized to fit the screen and the tabs at the bottom used to switch between them.
3. The terminal window with tabs for
   • Open trades
   • Account history – previous trades
   • Alerts from EA’s
   • Mailbox
   • Experts
   • Journal
4. The navigator window showing the available trading accounts, Indicators, Expert Advisors, Custom Indicators and Scripts
5. A market watch window showing the Bid/Ask prices for each tradable currency pair.  There is also a tick chart to view tick by tick movement of a selected pair on a tab
